Integrated communications provider Alaska Communications Systems Group Inc (ACS), has announced its fibre optic expansion and network equipment upgrade project in Sitka, has been completed.
The project included the installation of fibre optic cables in areas between Halibut Point Road and Sawmill Creek Road and has reportedly increased Internet availability for residents and businesses in Sitka by 34%.
ACS said it also completed a network equipment overhaul, which included upgrading existing facilities to accommodate the fibre, resulting in fast upload and download speeds and expanded Internet service availability. It claimed residents can now access faster Internet speeds, of up to 3Mb/s, at competitive rates not previously available, while business customers can benefit from speeds of up to 5Mb/s.
ACS, which also offers discounted bundles for high-speed Internet, local and long distance services, confirmed each customer has a dedicated high-speed Internet connection to their business or home.
