DALSA Launches Xcelera-HS PX8 Frame Grabber for Piranha HS 12k 90 kHz Camera

DALSA Corporation (TSX: DSA), a global leader in machine vision technology, today announced the availability of the Xcelera™-HS PX8 frame grabber  to support the new Piranha HS 12k 90 kHz camera, which was also announced today.

Building on the field proven technology and performance of DALSA’s Xcelera-CL frame grabbers, the Xcelera-HS Series leverages the PCI Express (PCIe) platform to bring traditional image acquisition and processing technology to new levels of performance and flexibility

Building on the field proven technology and performance of DALSA’s Xcelera-CL frame grabbers, the Xcelera-HS Series leverages the PCI Express (PCIe) platform to bring traditional image acquisition and processing technology to new levels of performance and flexibility. The new frame grabber and camera are being showcased at ’09 ITE, the International Technical Exhibition on Image Technology and Equipment, December 2-4, 2009 at Pacifico Yokohama in Yokohama, Japan in booth #167.

With DALSA’s newly developed HSLink interface, Xcelera-HS PX8 frame grabber can deliver unprecedented image acquisition bandwidth of 1.5 gigabytes/second and host transfer bandwidth of 2 gigabyte/second over multiple-lane PCI Express implementations. The HSLink interface is a new machine vision connectivity interface pioneered by DALSA. The interface has taken the key strengths of Camera Link®, and added new features and functions. HSLink delivers scalable bandwidth in 300 megabyte/second steps, from 300 to 6000 megabytes/second, while using globally available, off-the-shelf components. A white paper detailing the HSLink interface is now available for download.

“DALSA’s Xcelera-HS PX8 frame grabber sets a new standard for image acquisition speed and processing,” said Inder Kohli, product manager for DALSA. “The new HSLink interface delivers unprecedented speed while providing 100% data reliability at system level.”

The Xcelera-HS PX8 has been built within DALSA’s Trigger-to-Image Reliability technology framework to leverage DALSA’s hardware and software innovations to control, monitor and correct the image acquisition process. Ideal applications for this new Xcelera frame grabber include solar cell, flat panel display, semiconductor and electronics inspections, as well as general machine vision applications.

Software Advantage

All Xcelera series frame grabbers are supported by DALSA’s Sapera™ Essential software package. Sapera Essential is a cost-effective machine vision software toolkit that bundles board level acquisition and control with advanced image processing capability. The Sapera Essential standard processing tool run-time license is offered at no additional charge when combined with DALSA frame grabbers. This software run-time license includes access to over 400 image processing functions, area-based (normalized correlation based) template matching tool, blob analysis and lens correction tool. (Some conditions and limitations apply, contact DALSA sales for details).
