Daktronics (Nasdaq-DAKT) has announced an upgrade to its ProPixel® freeform LED product collection to offer daytime visibility.
The products, available in a variety of different viewing distances, combine high-bright LEDs with a flexible mounting platform to transform nearly any structure into a three-dimensional, daytime-viewable video display with up to 5,000 nits of adjustable brightness.
The announcement opens doors for architects, designers and property owners to explore new avenues of creative design, fusing architecture with live video to create distinct visual landmarks that can reach viewers by day or night.
“Daktronics ProPixel® LED elements are the only creative LED products in the industry that are proven to offer premium daytime visibility,” explained Jon Settingsgard, product manager. “This development will undoubtedly redefine the way we look at modern architecture.”
The products saw a recent large-scale installation at the world-famous Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minn. The installation used a combined 2,928 meters (9,606 feet) of ProPixel® elements to transform the theater’s iconic, video-capable towers into vertical digital columns used to show upcoming events, showtimes and a variety of other rich, interactive content.
“The Guthrie install was a prime example of how architecture and digital display technology can work together to create something breathtaking,” said Settingsgard. “The theater’s stunning, modern design combined with its iconic video-capable towers makes it a one-of-a-kind landmark on the Minneapolis skyline.”
As a full-motion video solution, ProPixel® products can display a nearly endless variety of creative content, including: live video, digital animations, color washes and advanced visual effects. Premium Nichia® LEDs also allow the displays to run 24/7 while consuming a fraction of the energy used by traditional neon and incandescent lighting accents.
“We worked hand-in-hand with architects and designers around the world to develop these products,” said Settingsgard. “Their lightweight profile, daytime visibility and full-motion video capabilities make them a powerful addition to any architect’s toolbox.”
Daktronics offers a variety of ProPixel models, including the PXS-16HD, PXS-31, PXS-62, PXC-100 and PXS-125.
