GigaBeam Expands Wireless Fiber Optics into Australian Market

GigaBeam Corporation, deploying WiFiber® “wireless fiber optics” technology to economic centers across the globe, announced today that it has received an order for three 100 megabit WiFiber links from Australia-based GMG Solutions, a wireless network company that is the Australian distributor of GigaBeam’s WiFiber line of products.

GigaBeam's recently launched WiFiber® G-Series 100 megabit product offering is essential to the Company's strategic plan to provide a one-stop solution for major metropolitan centers where backbone transport solutions are required along with lower speed technologies to serve as access to customer premises. The lower price point of this product is expected to significantly drive demand for the Company's products. This 100 Megabit product as well as the Company's Gigabit product are complimentary to and will benefit from the rollout of next generation WiMAX and 4G technologies.

“Australia provides us with ample opportunities for growth,” said Louis Slaughter, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GigaBeam. “We feel confident that we can take advantage of these opportunities with our strategic partner GMG Solutions. This sale is also an excellent example of the additional revenues that can be derived from our expanded product line.”

GigaBeam's WiFiber technology is similar to terrestrial fiber in terms of speed and reliability. WiFiber has a substantial advantage over terrestrial fiber because it can be rapidly deployed and costs significantly less to deploy than terrestrial fiber. Terrestrial fiber can take months to deploy and also require significant regulatory and environmental approvals prior to installation.

The first network utilizing the WiFiber 100 megabit product was established by One Velocity, Inc., a next generation Wireless Local Exchange Carrier with operations based in Las Vegas and with plans to expand into the Western United States. One Velocity recently ordered 24 WiFiber links including five links from the new product offering for their network in the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

GigaBeam WiFiber products operate in the 71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz upper millimeter wave spectrum bands. The Federal Communications Commission and the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) and certain other countries for licensed wireless commercial use have authorized this portion of the spectrum.
