Ionatron, Inc., the Laser Guided Energy (LGE) Company, today announced that they have received a $1,027,000 contract from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane, IN for development activities relating to Counter-IED technology.
This contract is initial funding for engineering development and verification testing of the Dual Effect Standoff IED Neutralization System (“DESINS”). The DESINS system employs Ionatron next generation technology for neutralization of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or “roadside bombs”. The program was requested by the U.S. Marine Corps and is an outgrowth of technology development and testing activities completed the first quarter of 2007. Funding for this latest contract is provided by the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), the U.S. Military’s organization chartered to lead the effort against the IED threat to U.S. and coalition forces.
Dana Marshall, Ionatron’s President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “This contract represents the next step in the process of adapting Ionatron’s proprietary IED neutralization technologies, and qualification of our hardware to support and protect Marines in the field. We are particularly pleased to be working with JIEDDO to develop and field innovative and versatile energetics technologies to counter the challenging threat of roadside bombs and other IEDs.”
Mr. Marshall also stated, “Ionatron has made a commitment to the Marine Corps to do our best to accelerate the DESINS program, and the activities funded under this contract, and announced today, have been ongoing at Ionatron for several months.”
