Zecotek Photonics Inc. (TSX VENTURE:ZMS)(FRANKFURT:W1I), a developer of leading-edge photonics technologies for medical, industrial and scientific markets, today announced that its proprietary Green Fiber Laser GFL 550 has been selected by the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk) as the main laser source for Raman spectrometers in solid-state research and for confocal microscopy in biomedical (DNA) research. The lasers will also be used in a program of biomedical research for the development of new tools for confocal microscopy and flow cytometry.
"We are extremely pleased that the prestigious Russian Academy of Science has selected our Green Fiber Laser for their work in the important area of biomedical research," said Dr. A.F. Zerrouk, Chairman, President, and CEO of Zecotek. "Our lasers give researchers and manufacturers an important new tool in biomedical instrumentation and in particular flow cytometry and confocal microscopy. By removing the present dependence on a single specific wavelength, our Green Fiber Laser allows for arbitrary wavelengths in the green spectrum with significantly improved sensitivity of detection, and it is better suited to a wider range of preferred biological markers. Our unique patented designs have created a new class of laser devices, which extended into other wavelength ranges, and provide for a single technological platform for the majority of the visible spectrum."
Zecotek's continuous wave blue-green fiber lasers have been specifically developed as higher performance, lower cost replacements for argon ion and solid-state laser wavelengths in applications including: bio-instrumentation (DNA sequencing, flow cytometry, scanning laser microscopy), medicine (ophthalmology, dermatology, urology), printing and imaging, inspection and measurement, laser writing and lithography, and fundamental research (spectroscopy, fluorescence analysis).
The CW blue-green fiber lasers have a broad range of operating wavelengths: 458, 488, 515, 529, 531 (Ar/Kr ion laser replacement), 532 (DPSS replacement), 540, 550, 560 (additional) and many others in the range 450-570 nm, with specification sheets available for 540nm and 550 nm. The lasers also feature tuneability (greater than 10 nm) and multi-wavelength and narrow-band options. For more information, please visit www.zecotek.com.
Zecotek's fiber laser products have been developed for OEM manufacturers of medical and industrial systems who require higher power at specific wavelengths available from fiber sources, but will also be effective for use in fundamental and applied research.
To serve the Russian market, Zecotek's Green Fiber Lasers are manufactured under contract by Novolaser Co. for Zecotek Laser Systems Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Zecotek Photonics. Fujikura Japan remains Zecotek's manufacturing partner for global production and sales.
