SiliconCore Technology, a leading fabless analog products company, today announced that one of its Laser Diode Driver (LDD) devices has started mass production with SANYO's slim type Optical Pick-up Unit (OPU). Slim type OPU is used in DVD recorder drives which are standard on most Notebook Personal Computers. The LDD device controls the laser diode on the OPU and manages the accurate switching of the high currents required during the CD and DVD reading and writing operations.
“We are very pleased to have been selected by SANYO on this critical high volume product. Notebook computers represent the growing segment of the PC market and SANYO is a very important partner for SiliconCore, having the highest worldwide OPU market share,” said Eric Li, President and CEO of SiliconCore Technology, Inc.
There are over 700 million OPUs produced worldwide per year, of which about 300 million are used in the Personal Computer market. The Notebook segment represents the growth area of the Personal Computer market and the majority of notebooks are equipped with slim type DVD recorder drives. These drives can play and record DVD as well as CD discs, allowing users to record and playback music, video or to back up and restore data files.
