NeoPhotonics announced today a new line of "pluggable" GPON OLT transceivers, compliant with the ITU-T G.984.5 Class B+ and C+ networking standards, to augment its portfolio of widely-deployed GPON modules used in "fiber to the premise" (FTTP) networks around the world. Pluggable transceivers give systems designers flexibility in configuring their platforms for different network applications and allow higher port densities as they physically separate the optical interface from the rest of the system hardware.
These new pluggable OLT transceivers enhance NeoPhotonics’ existing line of GPON modules for optical line terminals (OLT) and Optical Networking Units (ONU), which are deployed in Central Offices (CO) and at Customer Premises (CPE), respectively. Together these OLT and ONU devices form a comprehensive portfolio of advanced small form factor transceivers for GPON systems manufacturers.
Furthermore, the new transceivers cover both Class B+ and C+ link budgets, feature Receive Signal Strength Indicators (RSSI) and advanced monitoring capabilities and meet Commercial (C-Temp) and Industrial Temperature (I-Temp) grade specifications. Advanced monitoring features allow early fault location and reduce down time in system operation.
"These new GPON transceivers complement well our current portfolio of FTTP products and solidify our position as one of the leaders in optical access transceivers," said Tim Jenks, Chairman and CEO of NeoPhotonics. "Our GPON transceiver line meets the stringent performance and reliability requirements for triple-play access networks and builds on our experience in several segments of the optical access market. We leverage both our conventional manufacturing as well as our ‘PIC,’ or photonic integrated circuit, capabilities, which embody our commitment to innovation and technology leadership in optical components."
NeoPhotonics will showcase its new line of GPON transceiver modules alongside several other pacesetting products at the OFC/NFOEC 2009 Conference and Exhibition, in booth 1126 of the San Diego Convention Center, from March 24th through the 26th.
In addition, Chris Pfistner, NeoPhotonics Vice President of Product Marketing , is chairing the Service Provider Summit and Market Watch Programs during the conference and will moderate the session: "FTTH -- Advancing on Many Fronts" on Wednesday, March 25th from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on the exhibition floor.
