CoreOptics and Partner to Enable Plug-and-Play Metro Optical Networks Based on MLSE-2

CoreOptics Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of 40 Gbps and 10 Gbps optical networking subsystems, and ADVA Optical Networking today announced joint development of the second generation of 10 Gbps Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimation (MLSE-2) technology on ADVA Optical Networking's FSP 3000 Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) platform.

“The joint work with CoreOptics has resulted in an innovative optical module based on MLSE-2 and ADVA Optical Networking’s transmitter technology,” commented Dr. Christoph Glingener, chief technology officer at ADVA Optical Networking. “It will enable transport of 10 Gbps signals on much longer uncompensated links to further maximize the benefits of ROADM-based installed networks. In addition to significant CAPEX/OPEX savings, the results of our partnership with CoreOptics enable service providers to simplify their architecture with high-performance, low-cost plug-and-play metro optical networks.”

CoreOptics has established market leadership in providing highly advanced equalization solutions based on electronic signal processing at 10 Gbps, while providing a complete set of 40 Gbps transponder modules. The company’s innovative technology is “field-proven” and is in deployment with top tier service providers globally.

“ADVA Optical Networking has been in the forefront of delivering optical and Ethernet innovation to advance the transformation to packet-oriented optical networking and increase the efficiency of existing network infrastructure,” said Hamid Arabzadeh, chairman of the board, president and CEO of CoreOptics. “ADVA’s disruptive next-generation metro WDM platform, now based on MLSE-2, will enable service providers to benefit from more capacity, higher speeds, longer reach and a greater utilization of their optical networks, while achieving a much faster service activation time for the end users.”

CoreOptics currently offers 10 Gbps DWDM, 40 Gbps Single Channel Short Reach and 40/43G DWDM transponder modules. The company’s product portfolio also includes 40G Serializer/De-serializer IC’s, 43 Gbps Ultra-FEC, 40G Mux/DeMux for 4x10G client signals and Interface Converter supporting SFI-5s, SFI-4, XFI to enable building of next generation Open Tolerant Networks.
