Seiko Epson Corporation today announced that it recently shipped its 50 millionth high-temperature polysilicon (HTPS) TFT panel for 3LCD projection systems. Epson has maintained its position as the industry's leading supplier of HTPS panels, the key component in 3LCD projectors, ever since becoming the first manufacturer in the world to launch full-scale volume production of 1.3-inch VGA panels in 1994.
Epson is constantly undertaking the development of new technologies to improve the performance of 3LCD projectors, such as employing D7 process technology in its latest panel series to achieve even higher aperture ratios and offer greater brightness than ever before, and developing a 12-bit LCD driver and hybrid driving technology. In addition, Epson is also supplying optical compensation plates, which are a peripheral component of 3LCD projectors.
The market for data projectors continues to expand. Growth is being driven largely by a heightened demand for business presentations and the computerization of the classroom. Due to growth in the use of high-definition players and the steady expansion of digital high-definition TV broadcasts, there is also a growing need in the consumer market by people who want to view images on large-screen, high-definition projectors. Epson will continue to respond to the needs of users in these markets, utilizing proprietary cutting-edge liquid crystal and high-aperture ratio technologies to create HTPS panels that offer unparalleled luminous efficiency, and provide bright, natural images that are easy on the eyes, as well as being environmentally-friendly through their low power consumption.
