Rock imaging is now recognized as an expert discipline that requires deep technical knowledge of imaging methodologies, a keen understanding of the complexity of rocks, and familiarity with data science techniques including image processing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
The Rock Imaging Special Interest Group (RISIG) is home to over 300 experts in rock imaging. We are currently planning our annual event, iRIS2021, which will be a virtual event in November 2021. More information about the event can be found here.
Last year, iRIS2020 was also a fully virtual event and was a resounding success, with 37 presentations across eleven moderated technical sessions and a panel session on the topic “The Future of Rock Imaging”.
The iRIS2021 Advisory Committee is now seeking submissions from those who wish to present at this year's event. Abstracts should be approximately 300 words in length and may include images or diagrams.
Abstracts must address one of the suggested technical categories listed below and should promote the value of rock imaging in improving understanding or reducing uncertainty in reservoir characterization or mineral resource assessment. Papers that showcase technologies or case studies that are related to areas other than oil & gas, such as general geoscience applications, will also be considered for inclusion. In the event the abstract is accepted, the speakers are expected to prepare a 20-minute presentation.
All presentations at iRIS2021 will be made available to delegates on the rockimaging.org website after the event. Copyright in the presentations will rest with the authors and/or their employer, but must explicitly allow this sharing.
Abstracts and author information must be submitted via our website: www.rockimaging.org. The deadline for receiving abstracts is 30 June 2021.
