TeraXion Inc., a technology leader in performance-defining OEM products for the generation and conditioning of light signals in mission-critical applications of Telecom, Defense & Aerospace and Industrial markets, is proud to report that TeraXion has been selected by JDSU to supply telecom-grade FBG filters for its new commercial 488 nm solid-state laser.
The 488 nm solid-state blue laser developed by JDSU targets applications in biotechnology, semiconductor and general instrumentation. The fiber-based architecture consists of a semiconductor pump laser emitting at 976 nm that uses a narrow band FBG as its output coupler. This telecom-grade FBG filter developed and produced by TeraXion, is also used to accurately stabilize the frequency of the laser. Frequency conversion at 488 nm is then achieved by using a fiber-pigtailed periodically-poled lithium niobate waveguide.
“ This is the first time a commercial visible-wavelength solid-state laser benefits from reliable telecom packaging technology and we are proud that TeraXion's FBG filter is included in this design . We value their high-level of technical expertise and responsive mindset to rapidly design and manufacture highly customized FBG filters “ added Len Marabella, Director of Marketing for Commercial Lasers at JDSU.
“TeraXion is thrilled to be designed in such an innovative and promising product. Being selected by a marquee player of the industry such as JDSU is a recognition that the technology we developed over the years mainly for telecom applications can now be leveraged into other exciting high-volume market opportunities“ said Dr. Martin Guy, Vice-President of Product Management and Technology at TeraXion.
TeraXion Fiber Bragg Gratings are widely used outside of the telecom arena in diverse applications such as industrial lasers and fiber optic sensors. From ultrafast to high-power, TeraXion can provide reflectors, pulse stretchers/compressors and cavity dispersion compensators tailored to meet the most stringent requirements of today's and future high-performance fiber lasers used for marking, welding, cutting, micro-machining and medical applications.
TeraXion products will be on display during the 2007 Laser exhibition in Munich , Germany , June 18 to June 21 at booth # B1.126.
