Demand for Dark Fibre is Experiencing New Growth

In the first conference of its type, companies engaged in provisioning, supplying and using Dark Fibre across Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, will meet in London 12-13 June, at the Dark Fibre Convention.

Research to be published by consulting company BroadGroup reveals that in both western markets and in emerging central and eastern Europe, demand for dark fibre is experiencing new growth. Drivers identified include the entry of new players and utilities providing fibre optic infrastructure, market creation by the NREN segment, and new enterprise demand. BroadGroup is projecting forward annual growth of 15% in the emerging markets.

The convention will assess the re-emergence of fibre in metropolitan markets, central and eastern Europe dark fibre networks, pricing, buying and selling Dark Fibre, new enterprise demand and community dark fibre, the importance of Dark Fibre to the data centre sector, and investment and new deployment in the sector.

New fibre technologies and innovations will be showcased together with case studies in network implementation. Workshops will assess building dark fibre networks and preparing for 100GB Gigabit Ethernet transmission.

Industry support for a Dark Fibre networking hub has grown over the past two years, where companies and users engaged in this very focused sector can meet and hear directly from senior representatives and thought leaders.

The event will provide a content rich programme designed to deliver insight into growth occurring in the sector with original research presentations, top level case studies from CxOs, VPs and Directors, and open the opportunity for attendees to have access to a wide range of national and international networking opportunities.

“We confront a unique situation across the European region as much of the fibre that has not been utilised, is not now available”, commented Nicola Hayes, vice president at BroadGroup. “Supply therefore remains limited, and market entry by innovative new players is now occurring. Combined with significant growth forecasts for the newly emerging markets and new technological focus the argument for investment in dark fibre is extremely convincing. The Dark Fibre Convention will bring together all the stakeholders involved in defining this new market opportunity.”
