Jiangxi Outrace Technology Co., Ltd. ("Outrace") edged itself into the international LED lighting market this May with its excellent production capacity. With a fully automated production facility, the company has maximized capacity and claims to now produce a finished product every three seconds, on average.
During an interview with Outrace General Manager Zhang Jun, the reporters from China's Science and Technology Daily learned that, in terms of LED bulbs alone, the daily output of its automated production line has been increased to nearly 450,000 units, well ahead of the vast majority of LED makers.
Through the implementation of a cyber-physical production system (CPPS) based on machine-to-machine communication (M2M), Outrace has not only created smart factory workshops, but also achieved a fully automated end-to-end production capability. Under what General Manager Zhang termed as the "Manufacturing Execution System," the entire Outrace production line, from raw materials and parts to finished product, is an end-to-end production process based on automation standards and a wholly revolutionary and transformative approach when compared to the traditional manual assembly method.
"To produce a finished product every three seconds on average." Outrace is the first manufacturer in the LED sector to implement a holistic approach to quality control across the entire production process. Zhang explained that Outrace has 456 production lines, more than one-third of which are fully automated. Most of the automated lines are the ones that Outrace added most recently and that the maker developed on its own in accordance with industry standards.
Outrace is headquartered in Gao'an, a small city in China's Jiangxi Province. Like most Chinese cities, Gao'an is faced with continuously rising labor costs. The automated production capacities enables Outrace to tactfully confront the issue. Outrace has been able to reduce headcount by 15,000, overcoming the restrictions on growth that the massive workforce had imposed and has expanded capacity dramatically. With average annual wages near 40,000 yuan per headcount, Outrace has saved 600 million yuan in labor costs. That savings is the chief reason for the market competitiveness of the start-up.
Apart from applying technologies developed on its own to back-end production equipment, Outrace has also brought in industry-leading production equipment from Japan, Germany and other countries to ensure a yield rate higher than the company's peers across the sector.
To successfully establish a presence in the international market, Outrace has raised quality control standards across the full range of products since last year. The firm has passed the ISO9001 international quality management system certification, a passport for its entry into global markets. The certification demonstrates that Outraces's management systems have met international standards and that the firm expects to be able to continually provide qualified products.
