JDSU Reaches Milestone Shipment of Over 2,000 Kilowatt-Class Fiber Laser Modules

JDSU today announced that it has shipped more than 2,000 kilowatt-class fiber laser modules since their introduction in 2011 reconfirming JDSU's ongoing contribution to the global fiber laser market. The laser modules are integrated into JDSU CORELIGHT fiber laser engines for the macro materials processing market.

Industrial manufacturers use these high-power fiber laser cutting and welding systems to quickly and precisely process sheet metal that are used to create a wide variety of products. Examples include cutting parts from sheets of aluminum and steel for the manufacturing of automobiles, aircraft and commercial and consumer appliances. Laser welding is used to join metal materials together in a significantly more efficient manner when compared to traditional welding processes.

Fiber lasers continue to gain momentum for metal processing because of their high performance, exceptional electrical-to-optical efficiency, compact footprint, and lower cost of ownership.

"We're pleased with continued momentum for our fiber laser products and the efficiencies they provide to our customers," said Alan Lowe, president of JDSU's CCOP business unit. "We expect the expanded lineup of fiber laser products and new high-brightness designs we have planned for 2015 to provide additional value to our customers."
