Photonex Southampton Roadshow offers the best way to meet with specialists face-to-face, investigate new technologies and familiarise yourself with what’s on the market.

The first Photonics Technology Roadshow in 2015 brings together a commercial exhibition of 30 companies and an open day for the launch of an ESPRC funded project on the Manufacturing and Application of Next Generation Chalcogenides. A one-day-only event at the University of Southampton on Monday 9th March.

Celebrating advanced materials and light technologies, this event is a key date in the International Year of Light diary.

The event itself will bring many visitors from all over the South of England, attracted by the combination of a lively exhibition with a high-level Open Day at a university venue. See what’s new, meet your suppliers and at the same time attend an Open Day for an important new EPSRC project that will advance the UK’s manufacturing capability of advanced functional materials.

Take the opportunity to view in advance a full list of products you can expect to see at the exhibition on the Photonex Southampton website (www.photonex.org/soton). The range includes: cameras, components, glass and infrared materials, instruments, lasers, optoelectronics, opto-mechanics, materials characterisation, microscopy, sensors, and all types of equipment used by researchers and companies using light technologies in their work.

Chalcogenide Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Open Day (ChAMP).

Running alongside the exhibition is ChAMP Open Day. Researchers from the University of Southampton and partner universities across the UK are advancing the applications of speciality glasses, leading to commercialisation and their application in a range of products from optical fibre, infrared lenses to electronic devices including logic and memory.

This EPSRC funded project is the culmination of almost 25 years of research in Southampton’s Optoelectronic Research Centre in novel glasses and will revolutionise the manufacture and use of chalcogenide glasses.

Professor Dan Hewak, group leader commented, “We are fortunate to have several world-leading scientists join us in this partnership to address the manufacturing research challenges in developing applications, production technologies and future processes that incorporate these advanced functional materials. He adds, “The co-location of our open day with the Photonex Roadshow greatly enhances the value of the day for our partners, friends and potential collaborators.”

Advance registration is necessary for this free conference. To register, and to download a detailed programme, please visit the website.

Latest photonics techniques and instrumentation.

In parallel with the Open Day programme, there will be a programme of photonics tutorials, led by exhibiting companies. Tutorials will be educational and feature on theory, advances, techniques, technology comparisons and features to look out for when choosing equipment for your next project.

Subjects to be covered include “Ultra-low noise silicon photomultipliers - applications and recent advances”, “Visible and NIR photon counting solutions”, “Laser-induced Damage Threshold” and more.

Ideal for professional development and further education these tutorials will suit someone who is new to photonics as much as someone with knowledge of a particular subject.
