AOptix Recognized as Fierce Innovation Awards Winner

AOptix, a pioneer in ultra-high capacity wireless communications, announced today that it received top honors in the Metrocell Backhaul category of this year’s Fierce Innovation Awards: Telecom Edition, a unique operator-reviewed awards program from the publishers of FierceWireless, FierceTelecom, and FierceCable.

AOptix was selected for its Intellimax® product, an ultra-high capacity wireless transport solution that delivers fiber-like performance, offering the greatest bandwidth of any wireless networking technology on the market. Based on AOptix’ highly innovative Composite Optical-RF (COR) technology, Intellimax is capable of delivering 2 Gbps constant data rate with carrier-grade availability, at distances up to 8 kilometers in a single hop, or virtually unlimited distances in repeater configuration. COR technology integrates Free Space Optics with Millimeter Wave Radio Frequency (RF) technology to deliver performance that is greater than the sum of its parts.

The technology behind Intellimax was originally developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense to pass large amounts of data between air-to-air and air-to-ground nodes for defense applications.

In November 2013, Intellimax became generally available worldwide for a range of commercial wireless applications, including mobile backhaul, enterprise access, and low latency networks. Service providers looking to alleviate growing network logjams no longer have to choose between high capacity, distance, carrier grade availability, or deployment flexibility. Intellimax offers the high-level capacity required by metrocell backhaul without the restrictions of fiber on cost or deployment.

Winners were selected by an exclusive carrier-only panel of executives from AT&T, CableLabs, Cablevision System Corporation, Comcast, Cox Communications, Inc., Orange, Sprint, TeliaSonera International Carrier, and Verizon. Full profiles of the judges can be found at https://www.fierceinnovationawards.com/telecom/2014/judges.

Judges evaluated submissions based on the following criteria: technology innovation, financial impact, market validation and end-user customer experience.

"We are honored to be recognized as a Fierce Innovation Awards winner," said Dean Senner, chairman and CEO of AOptix. "Given Intellimax’ ultra-high capacity transport capability, the product is particularly well suited to alleviating the high-density metrocell network bottlenecks that arise as data traffic continues to grow. AOptix Intellimax is seeing tremendous traction in the market as a proven wireless alternative to fiber. We are proud that our COR technology is at forefront of this rapidly changing landscape."
