RED-C Optical Networks Ltd., a leading provider of integrated optical subsystems based on state-of-the-art optical amplification and monitoring technology, and Proximion, a world leading provider of dispersion compensation solutions, today announced their cooperation in promoting an erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) design optimized to take advantage of the unique properties of DCM technology.
DCM technology based on Fiber Bragg Gratings enjoys a number of advantages relative to conventional dispersion compensating fiber (DCF), such as much reduced insertion loss, negligible optical delay, and high optical power tolerance. EDFAs optimized to take advantage of these properties offer significant cost savings and reduced footprint, as well as providing performance advantages with respect to noise figure and transient suppression.
This partnership meets the emerging need to design sub-systems using new innovative approaches for increased optimization. Combining Proximion’s DCM solutions with RED-C’s amplifier designs provides an additional constructive step to fully exploit the advantages even further in improving cost/performance ratio.
Proximion’s DCM solutions include the continuous band DCM-CB, the high-value HDCM and new channelized DCM-ITU. The unique features of these FBG-based, cost-effective DCMs are already proven with volume deliveries to major system vendors enabling them a higher degree of freedom when optimizing their systems with respect to performance and cost.
“This cooperation with Proximion to promote a DCM-optimized EDFA design represents RED-C's continuing commitment to providing our customers with the most cost-effective and technologically advanced amplification solutions to suit their needs,” noted Yossi Boker, RED-C President & CEO. “It further emphasizes RED-C’s technology leadership and its continuous pursuit of cutting edge products and designs.”
“We are proud to cooperate with RED-C in their creative initiative to design optimized EDFA solutions,” commented Stefan Ekman, Proximion CEO. ”Our cooperation with RED-C marks the beginning of a trend utilizing our DCM solutions in the development of cost-effective, high-performing optical sub-systems for high capacity DWDM networks.”
