L-3 AOC Develops Enhanced Gold Optical Coating for Large-Format, Strategic Imaging Applications

L-3 Applied Optics Center, part of L-3 Communications Warrior Systems, has developed a new line of enhanced, protected gold optical coatings for deposition on large-format, high-value substrates. The gold thin-film coatings are ideal for deposition on lightweight optical elements for applications where weight and performance are critical design factors, such as terrestrial and airborne imaging systems.

L3 Gold Coating on Convex Optic

L-3 AOC offers the enhanced gold coatings on optical elements in excess of 350 mm in diameter. Other AOC products in development include highly-specialized reflective metalized films such as protected silver, aluminum, silicon carbide, and a wide range of metal oxides for commercial and military applications.

AOC’s new family of reflective coatings can be designed in accordance with specific customer requirements to maximize wavelength-specific performance, from the deep ultraviolet (UV) to the far infrared (IR). In addition, these metallic coatings are designed in accordance with stringent customer requirements for durability and environmental stability.
