Plastic Logic Presents Advanced Flexible Display Technology at ICFPE2012

At the 2012 International Conference on Flexible and Printed Electronics (ICFPE2012) in Tokyo, Japan, Plastic Logic, a key player in the plastics electronics field, will present its advanced flexible display technology for applications, including smart phones and e-readers.

Plastic Logic’s Principal Research Engineer, Guillaume Fichet will demonstrate the latest developments in organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) backplane technology at the event. The company will also discuss key findings on organic thin-film transistors’ enhanced reliability and the impact of certain production process steps on long term electrical stability and initial transistor performance.

Plastic Logic's flexible plastic display technology is based on organic thin-film transistors, which are processed over a flexible plastic substrate for driving an electrophoretic display media supplied by E Ink, thus producing a fully plastic-based display. It is possible to manufacture this display in color, monochrome and in a broad range of sizes and shapes.

Plastic Logic's displays are very light in weight, ultra thin and consume less power. Moreover, the flexible display technology is daylight readable and shatterproof. The presentation will not only cover transistor development and latest technologies under development using the same OTFT technology but will also discuss issues related to scaling a transistor production process from a laboratory to a plant. The company established the first-of-its-kind plastic electronics factory in 2008 in Dresden, Germany. It will present some of the process learnt and developed at the conference.

Plastic Logic's flexible display technology facilitates a variety of applications for larger and smaller plastic display solutions, ranging from smart phones to companion products, e-readers and paper replacement. The company is also exploring the possibility to integrate its technology in non-imaging applications.
