To reinforce its long and successful history, the GSI Group Laser Division has rebranded as JK Lasers. The company, which marked its 40th anniversary earlier this year, remains committed to developing and manufacturing class leading Nd:YAG and fiber lasers for industrial applications.
Established in 1972, the company quickly found success with its first range of pulsed lasers using ruby, YAG and glass laser rods. This was followed by the MS-Series of Nd:YAG laser systems that offered breakthrough power levels for welding, cutting and drilling.
In 1982, JK Lasers was acquired by Lumonics of Canada to form one of the largest laser companies in the world. During this time, the company developed and installed the world’s first fibre optic delivery system on a solid state laser.
Lumonics merged with General Scanning Incorporated (GSI) in 1999 and, following the sale of the Lumonics brand, the laser segment of the business changed its name to the GSI Group Laser Division. Retaining the same staff and technical expertise, the company launched its first fiber lasers - the JK50FL and JK100FL - in 2007.
JK Lasers’ is now a leading player in the fiber laser market, as well as manufacturing CO2 lasers, Nd:YAG lasers, process tools and software. Its first multi-kiloWatt class of fiber lasers, the JK2000FL, was launched in April 2012.
Dr Mark Greenwood, General Manager of JK Lasers, said: "The rebrand to JK Lasers is an important step for us. It is a return to our roots; a recognition of our long and successful history. JK Lasers is not a newcomer to the market. We have been a leading light at the forefront of laser innovation for 40 years.
"Looking ahead, the JK Lasers success story is set to continue. We enjoyed strong growth during the first half of this year and we expect to sustain this performance throughout the remainder of 2012."
