New Optimized Driver Available for poLight TLens

poLight and Semtech have jointly declared the availability of the first driver for the TLens platform. By fitting inside the small camera module design, this ultra-small 8-pins driver will enable the TLens to achieve maximum performance.

Using a patented technology and based on its optical MEMS and polymer, poLight has created three different actuated autofocus devices. By integrating this technology within 1/5” to 1/2.5” sensor format-based camera modules, around 5MP to 12MP and higher resolutions can be achieved.

Semtech reported the availability of its SX8750 driver for capacitive and piezoelectric actuators for advanced Mobile Phone and PC camera modules. By optimizing the new technology of poLight TLens, the SX8750 allows a smaller form factor camera module, rapid auto-focus, and improved image quality. The SX8750 platform integrates high voltage and ultra-fast driver technology with 3V ultra-low current usage, without using any external coil. The combination of these unique features will promote MEMS-based actuators to achieve true real-time auto-focus and higher camera resolution as much as 20x more rapid than traditional VCM technology, at minimum power usage.

Key Features of SX8750 driver include small form factor of CSP 0.8x1.6x0.5 mm; 2.65 - 3.6 V supply, -16 V to +30 V differential output; lowest current consumption to provide low interference; low power with less than 5 mW averaged in active mode and with 1 uA listen mode current utilization; I2C controlled 10 bit differential DAC for accurate focus; no coil or flying capacitor required for minimal total solution area; and ensures 1 ms settling time with TLens.

This versatile driver can be deployed within Video Conference Call Camera Module, and Mobile and Smart Phone Camera Module.

The SX8750 is sampling now and will be introduced in production quantities of 3,000-piece lots during September. Semtech provides complete design assistance, such as field- and factory-based support.
