Groom Energy has worked alongside Lineage Logistics to successfully conclude the LED lighting upgrade project they had undertaken for the cold storage facility of Lineage Logistics in Richmond, VA. The project was initiated to improve the environment sustainability efforts at Lineage Logistics.
The LED lighting upgrade project achieved 85% reduction in the energy consumed by the lighting systems and eliminated 100 tons and more of carbon dioxide emissions at the Lineage’s cold storage facility in a year. Energy consumption relating to refrigeration was also reduced by lowering the heat-load.
Earlier used HID-based lighting fixtures were removed and intelligent lighting system from Digital Lumens was installed in its place. This system comprises LightRules lighting management software and intelligent high bay LED fixtures, thereby enabling 25% brighter illumination levels and greater visibility for employees without causing glare. Another useful feature that has been installed is the integrated controls. These controls can automatically track energy consumption and switch on lights whenever employees are present.
Groom Energy handled a building assessment for the facility wherein they conducted test demonstrations, and energy and photometric modeling and formulated a new site-based system. This work was achieved within three weeks without causing inconvenience to the operations of the facility.
The President of East Coast branch of Lineage Logistics, Mike McClendon stated that they were very happy to realize the company’s objective of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. He added that they plan to implement this project to all other facilities and continue working with Groom Energy to reduce their carbon footprint.
