TI to Debut ZigBee Light Link at Computex Taipei

Texas Instruments recently declared the industry's initial demonstrations of its latest ZigBee Light Link standard on the CC2530 ZigBee system-on-chip (SoC).

ZigBee Light Link optimizes and simplifies wireless networked LED lighting systems for easy installation, operation and maintenance. The CC2530 of TI is a certified Golden Unit for ZigBee Light Link through which designers can rapidly construct and test ZigBee Light Link products for interoperability.

During Computex Taipei that takes place from June 5 to 8, TI's ZigBee Light Link demonstration will exhibit comprehensive LED light management system, with the help of smartphone, an affordable gateway and LED devices. Direct lighting controls will be showcased via Android smartphone integrated to microSD card that combines CC2530 SoC for direct lighting control.

The second demonstration integrates an Android smartphone equipped to a CC2531 ZigBee USB dongle that incorporates BeagleBone, the Sitara AM335x ARM Cortex-A8 processor-based open-source community board, a low-cost gateway, through which ZigBee lighting and other devices can be leveraged as well as monitored.

The CC2530 is a true SoC solution for ZigBee and RF4CE as well as IEEE 802.15.4 applications. The CC2530 has an in-built RF transceiver, in-system programmable Flash and RAM and a microcontroller that allows wireless network nodes to be economically constructed. Featured with a variety of operating modes, the CC2530 is ideal for systems like LED lighting that requires ultra-low-power consumption. The SoC can work at temperatures up to 1250 C, enabling industrial applications. The CC2530 SoC integrates with TI's industry-leading Z-Stack ZigBee protocol stack that ensures complete ZigBee solution; thereby enabling ZigBee devices to gain expedite market.

The CC2530 ZigBee SoC is currently available. It is being enclosed within a QFN-40 package that is ROHS-compliant measuring just 6 x 6 mm. Full release of the Z-Stack for ZigBee Light Link is expected during Q3.
