Viaspace Enters into Distribution Agreement and Receives Order for Laser Humidity Instrument

VIASPACE Inc., a company that transforms proven space and defense technologies from NASA and the Department of Defense into hardware and software solutions, announced today that the company has entered into a distribution agreement and has received an order for its laser based HS-1000 VIASENSOR relative humidity instrument from Weis Scientific of Israel. Weis Scientific has received its initial instruments and will provide distribution for VIASPACE throughout the Middle East.

Weis Scientific is a distributor of high technology products including fuel cell related products to both companies and universities in Israel and other Middle Eastern countries. The VIASPACE HS-1000 instrument provides real-time measurements of the amount of water vapor in the Hydrogen gas streams used in Hydrogen fuel cells.

The performance efficiency of hydrogen fuel cells using a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) depends on the moisture level of the membrane. The membrane only conducts protons when it is hydrated or moist. The moisture is provided by water vapor in the incoming air or hydrogen stream. If the moisture level is either too wet or too dry, the fuel cell will either not run efficiently or may fail to operate.

VIASPACE CEO Carl Kukkonen stated, "We are very pleased to add Weis Scientific to our growing list of global distribution partners. Our early shipments of the VIASENSOR to this distribution partner should speed up their efforts to help other companies optimize fuel cell designs, as well as to provide a quality measurement of projected performance of units on the production line."
