Photron, a worldwide manufacturer and supplier of digital high speed cameras, has launched Fastcam SA-X, a new high speed camera that delivers about 12,500 frames per second (fps) at megapixel image resolution.
The highest performance camera meets the needs of the most complex and challenging imaging applications. The camera is suitable for various applications, including shock waves and ignition applications, combustion research, ballistics imaging, aerospace and defense research, fluid dynamics (PIV) and materials science. It is also ideal for other applications that need imaging of complex high speed incidents.
The Fastcam SA-X product features about 64 GB on-board memory and a 20-µ pixel size equipped with 12-bit ADC. Other features of the camera include a rapid-acting hardware trigger that enables flexible frame synchronization to peripheral devices and automated camera triggering; and a dual high speed gigabit Ethernet interface.
Photron’s Fastcam SA-X is designed to offer exceptional light sensitivity, 12-bit dynamic range, higher image resolution and considerably high frame rate. Through superior light sensitivity at 25,000 ISO monochrome, the new camera allows short exposure times and high frame rates, which are the major factors in optimum imaging performance.
The FASTCAM SA-X system can be controlled with the optional keypad or through Photron Fastcam Viewer (PFV) software. The system is provided with an integrated capping shutter to aid automated image calibration and increase ease of operation. The system also includes Photron Device Control SDK, a software development kit, which allows integration with user-specific software and wrappers for LabVIEW and MATLAB.
