Cable&Wireless Worldwide has chosen digital optical network solution of Infinera for its Europe Persia Express Gateway (EPEG) network to deliver a high-capacity reliable network connection between Asia and Europe.
Cable&Wireless Worldwide’s multiterabit EPEG optical network will cover roughly a 10,000-km distance from Frankfurt in Germany to Oman, of which undersea cable and other routes terrestrial represent only 246 km.
Infinera’s digital optical network solution is based on its DTN-X platform, which comprises the latest 500 Gb/s photonic integrated circuits (PICs). The DTN-X platform provides 500 Gb/s FlexCoherent super-channels and can be upgraded to 1 Tb/s super-channels, offering scalability with protection on investment. Cable&Wireless Worldwide has the DTN-X platform for its efficiency, upgradeability, simplicity and capability to backup a muliterabit network.
Since the DTN-X platform couples 5 Tb/s of OTN switching, Cable&Wireless Worldwide can converge the network layers efficiently, resulting in decreased capital and operational costs. Moreover, the intelligent GMPLS automation software of Infinera will allow Cable&Wireless Worldwide to quickly provision low-latency, highly-reliable services such as 100 Gb/s Ethernet, providing it a competitive edge through the Europe to Asia route.
The disruptive quality of Infinera's 500 Gb/s PIC also allows network operators such as Cable&Wireless Worldwide to consume minimal power and space. Infinera's DTN long haul and metro platform with powered PICs is scalable up to 6.4 Tb/s of transmission capacity per fiber. The company’s other products are DTN-X platform with 500 Gb/s FlexCoherent super-channels, Infinera ATN, an upgradeable metro WDM transport platform, and Infinera’s Managed Services for worldwide service and support.
