TE Connectivity (TE) has declared a novel plug-and-play cabling technology for the passive optical network (PON) designs. The company’s optical LAN solution (OLS) uses a single strand of single mode fiber taken from the data center to an user area or an individual desk.
The advanced design of the high-performance OLS network has the capacity to provide converged voice, video and data at increased bandwidth levels of about 12 mi, which makes it suitable for campus environments and in new constructions. The complicated data-encryption capacity of GPON provides a secure data transport system for fiber-to-the-desk (FTTD) solutions.
The significant changes, caused by taking the optical fiber very near to the end user, are under progress in both the equipment closet and the data center. The use of novel maintenance and installation technologies delivers high bandwidth for serving many customers and extends the service life of the network infrastructure. The company’s scalable OLS enables smooth integration of the new technology solutions, while increasing the personal efficiency of the end users with the market’s greenest information delivery system.
Jon Secrest, Global Marketing Director for Enterprise Networks business unit of TE, stated that since OLS is a scalable PON solution, it needs only less active equipment and can minimize the power usage, resulting in reducing the end user’s maintenance and operating expenses.
The company’s end-to-end connectivity technology solution is developed with advanced cable management, time-saving cross-connect facility, pre-terminated and plug-and-play cabling, indoor and outdoor environmental protection, and rigorous quality standards.
