Cognex Introduces TestRun Feature for Proper Functioning of In-Sight Vision Systems

Cognex has introduced a novel feature called TestRun for its In-Sight vision systems to enable manufacturers to test easily and automatically whether their vision systems are working properly.

Cognex offers the new feature only with its In-Sight vision systems. Customers can now verify changes in program by rapidly verifying against the ‘baseline’ set up. TestRun also allows OEMs and system integrators to show that its vision system fulfills the acceptance specifications during its installation at the facility of the customer. It allows the machine operators to easily check whether the vision hardware is functioning correctly, ensuring elimination of incorrect results.

Moreover, TestRun helps quality managers to determine ‘borderline’ assessments and to fine tune pass/fail specifications. The retention of constant image quality is the basis of attaining reliable performance of vision system. Vision programs can have several configuration parameters. TestRun allocates range limits to these parameters, and when it runs, it verifies whether the existing setup parameters are within the required limits.

During image inspection, TestRun offers validation of the application against an image library containing illustrations of ‘good’ components and ‘bad’ components. When TestRun executes, the current vision program validates every image in the database and TestRun verifies that the results of the current vision program are in line with the required results.

Constant image acquisition quality is the basis of steady results of a vision program. Hardware tests evaluate the reliability of the image obtained by the vision system by verifying parameters such as the position, illumination and focus of the current system. End users can configure a test routine set up with TestRun utilizing a simple TestRun setup wizard or in In-Sight Explorer 4.6.

The VisionView operator interface is utilized to implement TestRun on the shop floor. The operator is alerted by TestRun in case the current situation may negatively affect the functioning of the vision system. TestRun plug-in allows an operator to do the test routine on every system connected to the VisionView and determines automatically the presence of TestRun setup on cameras.
