A manufacturer of energy efficient, high performance silicon solutions, ON Semiconductor has added to its range of constant current regulators (CCRs), the NSI50350A which is available in two models, which includes the NSI50350AD and the NSI50350AS.
This robust NSI50350A regulator has been designed to provide a cost-effective and thermally efficient alternative to IC solutions or discrete/passive components required for regulating current in LEDs. The simple device is best suited for 1 W lighting applications such as signage, automotive and architectural lighting.
The new CCR regulator is capable of regulating current over a large voltage range. Incorporated with the self-biased transistor technology, it features an integrated LED driver. A negative temperature coefficient protects the LEDs from swings in current and voltage. 1W LED applications can be powered by the 350mA ± 10% even regulated current provided by the regulator. For devices requiring 2 W LEDs, two parallel NSI50350A regulators can be used. The CCR device can be operated between −55 °C and +175 °C.
The NSI50350A CCR can be used as a low-side or high-side regulator since no external components are required. A 50 V anode-cathode voltage allows the regulator to withstand voltage fluctuations that commonly occur in commercial signage, automotive and industrial applications.
The Director, small signal division of ON Semiconductor, Dan Huettl stated that the solid state lighting is steadily becoming popular in automotive, signage and architectural lighting and the regulator ensures that the LEDs are not damaged due to fluctuations and other challenges during their operation. The compact NSI50350A CCR is a single component solution to ensure LED protection.
The NSI50350A is available in DPAK-4 and SMC industry standard packages and are both UL940-V0 and AECQ-101 standard certified.
