Philips Lumileds Launches Illumination Grade LED with Lumiramic Phosphor Technology

Philips Lumileds, manufacturer of high-power LEDs for illumination solutions, has launched LUXEON A, a new illumination grade LED for homes, shops and restaurants.

Philips LUXEON A LED

The LUXEON A LED incorporates a Lumiramic phosphor technology and a 2 mm2 thin film flip chip to deliver high-quality light with high efficacy and output at 2700K and 3000K. It also allows color targeting that helps ensure that on a black body curve the illumination grade LED falls within a 3-step MacAdam ellipse. The LUXEON A has a similar footprint and platform as the LUXEON Rebel ES.

The LUXEON A LEDs are specified at a high 85°C junction temperature and are hot-tested. Normally, the industry has specified products at a junction temperature of 25°C, which does not reflect the actual usage conditions. The LEDs also deliver Freedom From Binning that provides confidence in the quality of light delivered.

The company has announced the current availability of the LUXEON A LEDs for design-in activities and sampling and intends to commence mass production in May 2011.
