Provider of fiber optics solutions, Timbercon has introduced two types of Fiber Optic Cable Field Repair Kits called the TK-Repair-M100 and the TK-Repair-B100. The former is a Harsh Environment Cable Repair Kit, while the latter is a Broadcast Cable Repair Kit.
Both kits are available with complete set of essential instruments to do the repairing of fiber optic cables. First, the outer jacket is stripped, then the kevelar is cut and finally the inner jackets are removed. Next, the glass buffer is removed and the resulting ferrule is then swaged mechanically onto the ends of the section to be repaired.
The ferrules are seized jointly in a clip mechanism that is guarded by a water-resistant flexible tube enclosure. To perform additional cable repairs, flexible tube enclosures and replacement ferrules can be bought separately. Although the repair kits are recommended for temporary repair, numerous repaired cables are still working in adverse conditions for years.
The company has displayed the fiber optic repair kits at the 2011 OFC/NFOEC tradeshow at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The Key Account Manager at Timbercon, Nolan Pitts commented that with the help of Timbercon’s repair kits, even novice technicians can repair a tactical fiber optic camera cable or SMPTE within 20 to 30 minutes.
