AMS Technologies Releases Singe Frequency Laser Module with Planar Technology

AMS Technologies, supplier of high-tech solutions in the pan-European market, has announced the availability of RIO Grande, a single frequency laser module with high power of up to 2 W.

RIO Grande

The device integrates RIO’s External Cavity Laser (ECL) with low noise Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) and can be used in RF & microwave photonics, high-resolution metrology, LIDAR, acoustic and interferometric sensing applications.

The Rio Grande laser module offers optical power range between 0.1 to 1 W over the C-band regions of wavelength range between 1530 and 1565 nm that are safe for human eye. The CATV EDFA feature and the semiconductor-based laser module assure less sensitivity towards acoustic and mechanical vibrations and thus ideal for adverse environments. It also lowers system heat dissipation and power consumption.

The laser module is designed using RIO’s patented planar technology called PLANEX. It comprises a gain chip as well as a planar lightwave circuit with Bragg grating and waveguide. High consistency and durability, low RIN, low frequency and phase noise, ultra-slim spectral linewidth are some of the features of the laser module.
