APS’ MatchMaker Optical Character Recognition Solution Secures US Patent

Optical character recognition (OCR) solutions provider, APS Technology Group proclaimed that it has received a patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its MatchMaker OCR solution’s identification procedure for container terminal transport vehicles.

MatchMaker OCR solution

The patent includes a system and a procedure for visually observing the movement of cargo between a transporter and a container-handling crane. The MatchMaker solution matches containers to tractors and handling devices and is an economical, durable replacement solution to RFID and GPS systems, which are costly to deploy and maintain, and are not reliable in a crowded container yard.

APS Technology is the only company in the market to provide the optical tag technology that improves inventory and productivity management at a container terminal and reduces lost containers, vehicle waiting time and resource necessities.

The MatchMaker system utilizes APS’ proprietary OCR camera technology to detect two-dimensional optical tags used on the windshield, doors and roof of the vehicle. Even though the system assures up to 98% precision, all tags have a person readable number that enables the correction of missed reads remotely in real time. This innovative visual exception handling functionality of the system assures that terminal functions have 100% transaction visibility.
