OSRAM SYLVANIA has replaced 350 existing metal halide street lights in Salem, Massachusetts with its energy-saving SYLVANIA D6 Area Lighting LED Retrofit Kit. The LED light kits save up to 68% energy and offer better brightness required for outdoor street lighting.
The operating life of the SYLVANIA D6 Area Lighting is two to six times greater than that of earlier HID lamp systems. The city will be able to reduce maintenance expenditures and will save more than $37,000 annually through the deployment of the LED lights.
Last summer, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts sanctioned a $245,624 "Green Communities" Grant to the City of Salem to finance the project. OSRAM SYLVANIA and the City of Salem worked with numerous partners to complete the LED retrofit project successfully.
The city included the SYLVANIA D6 Area Lighting LED unit to the ‘Eligible Products List’ for gas and electricity utility firm National Grid's "MassSave Rebate" program. In addition, local energy supplier, Hobart Energy agreed for a $96 per luminaire rebate.
