Mitsubishi Uses RGB Color Laser to Improve the Color Quality of LCD TVs

Mitsubishi announced that it has found a way to utilize one RGB color laser to enhance the color quality of LCD televisions.

LCD TV

The company has developed a 46” prototype that utilizes red laser diodes and combines it with Cyan LEDs.

The Cyan LEDs generates blue and green colors, while the laser generates red color. Mitsubishi stated that it chose red color for the laser instead of blue or green because it delivers better results in overall vividness. Utilizing a single LED for blue and green colors was crucial because separate LEDs caused uneven colors.

Mitsubishi, by utilizing one LED, enhanced the range of colo r on the LED television by 126% color gamut or 1.3 times. The other characteristics of the LCD television such as power consumption and brightness remained the same. The company will begin to sell the laser televisions in Japan by end of 2011.
