The city of Philadelphia has completed the erection of a solar power plant, which becomes the first municipal-owned power plant in the region.
CETCO Contracting Services Company, a geo-environmental construction company, received the public-bid project in accordance with the regulations of bidding process of the Philadelphia public works.
The solar project represents a turn-key design PV deployment for the Philadelphia Water Department. Malcolm Pirnie offered the initial interconnection locations and design guidelines for the project, while CETCO offered a turn-key design of the PV system including monitoring system selection, wiring and conduit schedule requirements, inverter sizing, electrical engineering of the system performance and interconnections, engineered structural design and geotechnical investigation of the arrays, decision on location and type of PV modules, and equipment procurement.
The project is situated at the Southeast Water Pollution Control Plant of Philadelphia Water Department. In addition, CETCO will offer a two-year maintenance contract for the project. The solar project would generate sufficient electricity to power 28 homes and would help meet the Greenworks Philadelphia aim to produce 20% of power from renewable energy sources by 2015.
