LightPath Develops New Lenses Using Black Diamond Chalcogenide Glass

Developer of optical components, LightPath Technologies has introduced two new molded infrared aspheres under its Long Wave Infrared (LWIR) lens family. The 390021 and 390023 lenses are ideal for thermal imagers. They are also utilized for collimating lenses used in Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL), which is utilized in various applications such as predictive maintenance, firefighting, and homeland security.

The 390023 lens has been designed for the less expensive security camera market. The 390021 extended focal length lens collimates light from a QCL, which is placed inside a cryostat or a temperature controlled housing. The 390021 is used for gas sensing and infrared countermeasure devices. Both the lenses have been developed using the Black Diamond chalcogenide glass of LightPath. The lenses are cost-efficient substitutes for diamond-turned, high-volume Zinc Selenide and Germanium optics.

LightPath’s President, Jim Gaynor stated that the company continues to diversify its product range for Infrared Optics by rolling out the new lenses. He added that the new lenses would address the increasing night vision enhancement, thermal imaging, and QCL markets.
