JDSU today announced that it has named BKtel Components, a leading distributor of fibre optic components and subsystems, as 2007 Distributor of the Year for the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. This is the second year in a row that JDSU has recognized BKtel for driving sales of JDSU optical communication products in the region.
Founded in 2006, BKtel supplies optical network equipment manufacturers with solutions that allow them to create and operate interactive optical networks. The company sells JDSU's active components, or products that sense and send light through a network, and passive components, or products that redirect or filter light, as part of its offerings. These products are widely used in the cable television and fibre access segments in EMEA, where high speed interconnectivity is becoming increasingly widespread.
BKtel was also critical in securing optical communications business from Andrew Wireless Systems GmbH, the German division of Andrew Corporation, by offering improved support, aggressive pricing and quality products compared to competitive offerings. Andrew's German facility uses a selection of JDSU actives and passives that transfer signals back and forth from mobile telephone system antennas to base stations within its fiber optic systems. The facility is one of its European plants that makes and distributes 'in-building' and 'distributed' antenna systems for use across the world.
"During our two year relationship with BKtel Components, I have been impressed with the drive and technical know-how they have brought to our EMEA sales activities," said Sinclair Vass, director of Communications Sales for EMEA at JDSU. "The commercial success of the partnership speaks for itself."
"BKtel's relationship with JDSU provides our customers with the most comprehensive product portfolio and an industry-leading supply chain," said Dr. Juergen Seidenberg, managing director of the BKtel group. "We are very pleased to have JDSU's support as we continue to capitalize on our strong leadership in this market segment."
