Manufacturer of LED lighting, Sunovia Energy Technologies, announced that the U.S. Navy has completed the installation of EvoLucia Aimed LED street lights in Crete, Greece. The EvoLucia cobra head lights were installed at the Souda Bay base.
The Energy Conservation Program of the Navy led the initiative to substitute the 300 W metal halide street lamps with 120 W EvoLucia LED lights. The transition cuts down energy consumption by 60%. A new mandate requires that the entire federal organizations should minimize energy consumption by 3% annually. The program realizes more than half of the specified reduction requirement.
The lighting installation was the first major government order for Sunovia. The General Services Administration contract was awarded in earlier 2010. A marine base in North Carolina called Camp Lejeune was the first government customer of Sunovia. Last December, Camp Lejeune had installed the EvoLucia LED streetlights in the campus.
Sunovia’s VP of global sales, Jim Perkins stated that the company is pleased to aid the Navy in their mission to reduce energy consumption. He added that more number of military bases would follow the green initiatives adopted by Souda Bay.
