Valeo and its Japanese partner, Ichikoh, have manufactured a new range of LED front lighting solutions. The LED lighting systems were unveiled on the Nissan Leaf Electric Vehicle. Engineers of both the companies have developed a cost-efficient headlamp based on LEDs. The LED headlamp of the Nissan Leaf is energy-efficient, has a longer lifetime, and delivers high-level performance.
The reflector and the collector of the LED lighting system are integrated as one thermoplastic part without any lens. They give a better look to the system, when compared to a traditional headlamp. The LED lights have a flux on the road of over 500 lm, providing high homogeneity. It also has a color temperature of 5500 K.
The module utilizes only two LEDs per headlamp, and consumes just 50 W power for every vehicle. The two LEDs save 30% more energy, when compared to the three LED-based headlamps. When compared to other lighting sources, the LED headlamps save a maximum of 62% with halogen systems, and 49% with Xenon systems.
