Micron’s New OEM Module Powers PXIe-4844 Optical Sensor Interrogator

Provider of instruments for fiber-optic sensing, Micron Optics has launched a new OEM unit to power the PXIe-4844 optical sensor interrogator of National Instruments (NI).

Micron Optics Powered Optical Sensor Module PXIe-4844

The PXIe-4844 sensor interrogator integrates the optical sensing technologies of Micron Optics inside the PXIe platform. This offers the LabVIEW users a high-performance device to address the growing number of applications, in which conventional sensors are not suitable.

The Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) sensor systems of Micron Optics incorporate sensors and devices that measure acceleration, displacement, temperature, and strain. The optical sensors can pass through areas that are susceptible to corrosive or explosive environments, radiation, electro-magnetic interference, and lighting. The sensor systems are ideal for weight sensitive, high strain range, or high sensor count applications.

NI’s Senior Group Manager of Data Acquisition, Brian Betts stated that the company has been witnessing growing requirement for optical sensing technology for transportation monitoring, energy transmission and production, and structural health monitoring applications. He added that the optoelectronics technology of Micron Optics, along with LabVIEW and PXI software, provides substantial enhancements in versatility and performance for optical sensing.
