OmniVision Releases New SOC Imaging Sensors for Camera Phones

Digital imaging solutions developer, OmniVision Technologies has launched two new SOC (system-on-a-chip) CMOS image sensors, namely, the OV2659 and OV2643.

The imaging sensors offer remarkable low-light sensitivity and HD (high-definition) video to the 2-megapixel resolution cameras. With these new imaging sensors, the company now has the largest portfolio in the industry for 2-megapixel camera solutions, for various applications such as entertainment and gaming devices, webcams, and notebooks.

SOC CMOS Image Sensors

The OV2659 and OV2643 include features such as high quality image capture, exceptional sensitivity, and 720p native HD video at 30 fps (frames per second). The OV2659 is constructed on the 1.75-micron OmniPixel3-HS architecture, which offers 950 mV/lux-sec low-light sensitivity. The ultra-low profile and the 1/5-inch optical format of the OV2659 suit the standard camera module size of 6.5 x 6.5 mm, for use in handsets.

The OV2643 image sensor includes the company’s 2.2-micron OmniPixel3-HS architecture that provides 1250 mV/lux-sec sensitivity. This imaging sensor model offers superior video image quality even under demanding lighting conditions.

Both the imaging sensors provide image control capabilities such as automatic black-level calibration, automatic white balance, and automatic exposure control. The OV2643 and OV2659 also include the common image quality controls including noise canceling, defective pixel canceling, lens correction, and edge enhancement. The OV2643 imaging sensor includes the black sun cancellation function.
