Manufacturer of architectural grade lighting solutions, Amerlux will replace 750 downtown area lights with its LED Acorn Retrofit lamps in the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin. The light replacement will enable Kenosha to save an estimated $780,000 because of the decreased costs in maintenance, and enhanced lighting efficiency in the forthcoming 15 years.
The LED Acorn Retrofit lamp has four modules and an operational life of more than 50,000 hours. The Amerlux LED’s are mounted to each individual heat sink of the lamp. It consumes 87 W of total power, and offers 3500 K color temperature.
The city selected Amerlux as the lighting solutions provider after testing various LED products. It installed each LED product in the decorative posts and monitored them for brightness, cost savings and efficiency. The City Council of Kenosha allotted about $1 million federal grant for the project, after the Public Works Committee sanctioned the lighting contract with Amerlux. The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2011.
The Chief Executive Officer of Amerlux, Chuck Campagna stated that the company’s LED lights allow Kenosha to utilize the existing poles and glass refractors, and help to save money.
