Provider of gas and temperature sensing solutions, LumaSense Technologies has acquired Opsens’ fiber-optic sensing technology. The acquired PowerSens system performs critical temperature monitoring for high-voltage equipment, and helps energy companies to detect transformer hot spots.
The PowerSens system utilizes GaAs (gallium arsenide) sensors to calculate the temperature. The system will complete the fiber-optic measurement product line of LumaSense. Many utilities throughout the world use LumaSense’s measurement portfolio. The fiber-optic measurement tools, offered by LumaSense include LumaSmart and ThermAsset2 systems that are based on the Fluoroptic phosphor technology.
LumaSense’s FOT (fiber-optic temperature) measurement technology is regarded as the industry standard for measuring hot spots of transformers, in the electrical industry. FOT makes use of tough probes to measure the winding temperatures directly.
The CEO of LumaSense Technologies, Vivek Joshi stated that transformer manufacturers are seeking for options to enhance the system reliability across all transformer sizes. He added that the PowerSens system enables the company to have a diverse range of products to satisfy the requirements.
