Daimler has selected the LUXEON Rebel LEDs for application in the DRL (Daytime Running Light) feature on some of the Mercedes-Benz models. The company will first use the LUXEON Rebel LEDs in the E-Class models starting from June 2010. Also the company has planned to use the LEDs for the other models.
The use of the LUXEON Rebel LED technology in vehicles allows car-manufacturers to manufacture lighting devices that minimize carbon-dioxide emissions, save power, and improve safety and visibility.
Mercedes-Benz car group’s exterior lighting department head, Uwe Kostanzer, stated that they collaborated with Philips Lumileds because of their efficient products and the reliable cooperation between the two companies.
Philips Lumileds’ Chief Executive Officer, Michael Holt, said that they are delighted with the LUXEON LED-adoption in the Mercedes car, extending their association with Daimler. The company’s Global Business Unit Automotive LEDs Vice President, Klemens Brunner, said that the LED adoption is a significant step in bringing the LED lighting products to the automotive industry.
