New market survey from Infonetics Research analyzes the carrier on routers globally. The report examines the service provider demand-level for the Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS), Optical Transport Network (OTN), IP over Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (IPoDWDM), and MPLS Transport Profile (MPLS-TP) functions on routers.
According to the survey, the majority of the operators intend to integrate the operations staffs for transport and data. GMPLS is currently utilized in optical networks, however, the carriers are waiting to see its feasibility in the data domain. The increase in the adoption of MPLS-TP on routers is anticipated in 2013 or afterwards.
Infonetics conducted interviews with the router purchase authorities over telephone, through online, and in-person at 20 top service providers who represent 38% of the global telecom revenue. The participant service providers were from Asia Pacific, North America, and EMEA regions. They included 45% of competitive operator and 55% of incumbent carrier types.
