Lasermet has introduced the new LS-20 Laser Safety Shutter for the safe operation of the laser system. The laser shutter has forcedisconnect proving contacts and a gravityclose blade. The LS-20, when open, lets the laser beam to transit without interruption. However, when the shutter is closed, it safely deflects the beam to an internal beam dump.
The standard model having a stainless steel blade can be utilized for up to 20W average laser power, and for use at multi kW levels, a dielectric mirror is used and an external beam dump fitted. The shutter offers a safety interlock when it is employed with a Lasermet Interlock Control System complying with the SIL (Safety Integrity Level) 3 to EN61508. The laser shutter has dual channel shutters along with blade position monitoring given to the safety control system. With this feature, failure detection and fail-safe redundancy is enabled in the LS-20 to offer high reliability and safety.
The LS-20 shutter is manually operable with the use of close and open buttons on the shutter and remotely operable by using the LS-RS20, Lasermet Remote Switching Station. To measure the laser beam power, the beam dump of the shutter can be detached and fitted with a laser meter’s detector head. The safety shutter is ideal for up to 15 mm laser beam diameters measuring 98×65×37mm. The provision of an antirotation slot in the base averts it from chance rotating or loosening.
