High-Performance Praying Mantis™ Diffuse Reflection Accessory

The Praying Mantis is considered a pioneer in the industry as it was the first widely accessible diffuse reflection (DRIFTS) attachment.

This diffuse reflection instrument enhances efficiency by minimizing the detection of specular components. The system's design, featuring pivotable ellipsoids, ensures easy access to the sampling area and utilizes 6:1, 90° off-axis ellipsoids to create a highly effective system for diffuse reflection collection and illumination.

The innovative setup redirects specular reflectance away from the collection ellipsoid, thereby reducing spectral distortion. The Praying Mantis is equipped to analyze materials and reactions under controlled conditions with its diffuse reflectance reaction chamber.

The Praying Mantis system is well-equipped, featuring a cart with two alignment mirrors, a 10 mm diameter diffuse reflectance sampling cup (0.25 ml volume), a 3 mm diameter adjustable microsampling cup (0.03 ml volume) with a funnel, and compatible hardware for connection to FTIR or UV-VIS spectrometers.

Key Features

The Praying Mantis™ boasts several key features:

  • It facilitates the easy attachment of reaction chambers.
  • Various models are available to ensure compatibility with a wide range of FTIR and UV-VIS spectrometers.
  • Incorporating Harrick’s PermaPerge™ technology, the system allows for quick component exchanges with minimal disruption to the system's purge.
  • Optional references are available for both FTIR and UV-VIS analyses.

Applications

The Praying Mantis is versatile and can be used in a variety of applications, such as:

  • FT-IR and UV-VIS spectroscopy, offering straightforward and dependable diffuse reflection testing for powders and solids.
  • Testing catalysts and other powders under controlled pressure and/or temperature conditions.
