Unidym and TEL Join to Develop Solar Cell Manufacturing Equipment

Arrowhead Research’s subsidiary Unidym announced that it has entered into a deal with Tokyo Electron (TEL) to jointly develop equipment for manufacturing of solar cells and displays based on carbon nanotubes.

As per the agreement, a coating tool will be developed by TEL and Unidym for the solar and LCD manufacturing companies. The manufacturers will use the tool for coating electronic inks of Unidym into their devices. Further, both the companies have planned to market the coating equipment and CNT electronic inks to the joint customers.

The CEO and President of Unidym Mark Tilley said that the collaboration is important in offering complete solutions to customers in solar and LCD manufacturing industries. He commented that TEL is a leading wet coating technology provider with direct channels to the solar and display markets.

The marketing group leader of TEL’s Flat Panel Display division, Taku Kawauchi stated that their coating solution and the CNT ink will provide good value to their customers. He added that they are impressed with the market leadership of Unidym in broadening CNT applications to various sectors such as display, electronics and photovoltaics.
